What type of gear do you service other than tube guitar amplifiers?
We only work on tube guitar and bass amplifiers. We specialize in vintage and vintage reproductions.
I see you have pickup service, will you pickup if I'm more than 15 miles away?
We are located in North Raleigh and only offer pickup service to Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Morrisville, RTP areas with a $10 per trip fee.
Does my amp need regular service?
While most tube amplifiers are extremely rugged and can last for decades, they often suffer from loose/dirty connections, worn parts, or weak tubes that can create unwanted noise and cause intermittent problems. Additionally, critical components such as electrolytic capacitors and tubes have a limited lifespan and can cause expensive problems if they fail. Most importantly I see people invest in a expensive new set of tubes to troubleshoot a simple problem. Regular service helps keep you ahead of problems, increases dependability, and can ultimately save you money.
Are there tube amps you don't work on?
While we provide service and basic repairs on most tube guitar and bass amps, we don't provide complex repair services for modern channel switching amps or imported amps with fragile or poorly designed printed circuit boards (PCBs). We are happy to assess your amp and provide guidance. We never charge if we don't accept the repair.
We don't work on tube HiFi gear
If I have my amplifier serviced does the minimum estimate fee still apply?
In most cases, depending on the severity of the issue, we will wave the minimum estimation fee if you purchase the Basic Amp Service.
How did you learn to fix amplifiers?
As a guitar player since the early 80's, I became obsessed with tube amps and understanding where amazing guitar tone comes from. I initially learned to work on amps out of a combination of necessity and constantly tweaking to get a better sound. After graduating from college, I left the band behind for a corporate job but never quit obsessing about amps. I continued to build my knowledge and started refurbishing a few old amps, building kits, and eventually building custom amps by replacing fried PCBs with vintage-inspired hand wired circuits. After 30+ years in the corporate world, I decided to take a slower path and go back to what I enjoy, helping those that make music sound even better.
